Halo Reach: World Premiere

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8-NIdKt ... re=related

This is a pretty cool trailer, watch it now.

Points of interest:
Only 2 spartans are named, George and Carter.
Prototype Hornets are seen, as with a prototype Battle Rifle and Spartan armour. Helmets appear to be morphed from ODST and RECON varients, but others may appear. 1 Spartan wears EVA (Spartan-III?) with a skull painted across it, which looks awesome, but they appear to have Borrowed this from COD:MW2's 'Ghost' character, who was similar, though this could be a coincidence.

Wish list:
Perks. Please. That is all.
More armour customisation is needed. Head, shoulders + body just won't cut it in future games.
Squad-based gameplay. Come on, it's fun as hell!
No elites in multiplayer. They're cool sometimes, but most Noobs play as our favourite (?) Dinosaur-esque friends. And they ruin Swat/Snipers.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Where I stand.

A lot of people have been discussing the controversial mission on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 over the internet, and I along with others think that it is time to say something about the latest installment of the CoD series.

First of all, I'll just say that I'm impartial to Call of Duty - It's a good game, but I don't love it, nor do I hate it. I respect that people like it as much as I enjoy to play Halo 3, but it's just not something I'd play long-term.
I was one of many people watching the live streams of the E3 gaming convention, where Modern Warfare 2 was shown, along with some gameplay and it looked decent, though I could not see where the improvements have been made. I also think that it is stealing ideas from other popular games such as the regenerating health (granted, it is used everywhere now) and now the motion sensor radar from Halo 3, and the snow setting from Battlefield Bad Company 2, which was shown but a few months after the first was out. It appeared to me that Infinity Ward were running out of ideas, and when the newest installment out, I found that I was correct. It's a continuation of Modern Warfare 1, but doesn't really expand massively on it. Halo 3 made a huge difference to Halo 2, firstly because it was on 360 as opposed to XBox, but it removed online modders for the most part, included new weapons, customisable armour and best of all, Forge. I see none of those kinds of expansions in MW2 and the campaign apparently is very short. Not something that is worth 55 quid then, which Activision valued it at. It could easily have been released as a cut-price expansion, or had another fantastic feature (spec ops = co-op campaign, doesn't count, should always be standard.) But the people over at Activision have to ruin every game they get their hands on. Guitar Hero. Tony Hawk. Now Call of Duty?

Halo 3 ODST review

Halo 3 ODST has been out for a couple of weeks now. Having completed the game to death, it's time to activate the VISR mode and show up the faults and strengths of the newest Halo title

I'm a big Halo fan. It's great storyline, characters and music make it feel like a sci-fi epic, and the best part is that you play as a bad-ass supersoldier, destroying a whole galaxy of aliens as they come running at you, guns a-blazing. The trilogy of Halo finished late 2007 with Halo 3, a game that, in my opinion, is the absolute best on the Xbox 360. Whilst almost every other FPS fan is singing praises of Call of Duty, I'm the one defending Halo. It's always been an easy job with Halo:CE, 2 and 3, and with ODST on the horizon, it looked like the job was to get even easier. Launch day came, and as soon as possible, I went down to my local GAME retailer and picked the game up (and Guitar Hero: Decades seperately for only £10!) and after some waiting around in traffic, I started up my Xbox, pulled Halo 3 out of the disc tray, threw it aside and put in the Halo 3: Mythic disk (Multiplayer). Now, I had been waiting for ODST for months, but I had to see the new maps, Heretic, Longshore and Citadel, which are by far some of the best maps on the entire game. Longshore takes place in an abandoned port, home of 'Fronks, Nuggets of the sea'. It's a large map that's got quite concentrated areas within it, meaning that it appears quite small. It's big enough for big team, but don't expect an avalanche-sized map. Citadel iss a smaller map based on The Ark and The Covenant, which is great because it's very original. It also makes for some very action packed gameplay. Then there's Midship - I mean Heretic. That's all I really need to say for that one, really and that alone makes it worth a purchase.

Bonus features aside, I got the achievables (bleep bloop) and began my ODST campaign on Heroic. Legendary is always for a second run-through, for me. I started up and the opening cinematic present in every videogame known to man starts. It's a background to the story, giving you an insight to your squad. You also get into the drop pod, easily one of the defining moments of the game. You can also see a scene from Halo 2, if you're not blind. At this point, one of your teammates' pods crashes into yours and you fall to the ground with the delicateness of a really huge block of bricks and you black out. During the time when you're blacked out, all bar two of the story missions take place without you. You wake up and then have to discover what happened to your team, and find them. That's all I'm giving away, I don't want to spoil the story of it, though it is a little bit predictable. Soldier is seperated from group, group finds soldier, soldiers get injured, love interest is rescued and you bring back an alien as a souvenir for Johnson. Oh bother. Slight spoilers there.

The gameplay is remarkably similar to Halo 3. It's built on the Halo 3 engine, after all. Die hard Halo fans will almost definitely buy this game, but a couple of hours into the game, I wondered if my money was spent wisely, as the campaign had finished. It’s a very short game that could easily have been released as DLC or at a cut price. It is a very good game, but extremely short – you’ll manage to complete the game in about 5 hours maximum on Heroic difficulty. All ODST as a separate game has to keep itself going is Firefight, which is an absolute blast. If you were the Master Chief, this mode would be incredibly easy, as it pits you against endless waves of Covenant troops, with each new round (I can’t remember them all, there’s a big number, the set, three dots which are the rounds, I think, and five squares for each wave within the round) but you are only human now, meaning that you have to use stealth more than you would normally. However good this mode is, It’s nowhere near as good as is worth £40.
The graphics look decent. It’s the Halo 3 engine, with slightly improved graphics, and it works well but the Halo 3 engine is starting to show its age. Another disappointing aspect is the sheer amount of repetition involved. It’s go here, fight some enemies, go here, fight some more and then they’ll throw in a chieftain or some hunters to catch you out. I would also have liked there to be more difference between the Spartans and the ODSTs, as it just feels as though you’re the same Spartan with no shields and slower jumping height. And that you’ve lost the ability to dual wield, which is odd.
That said, it is still Halo at heart, and I have to admit that the campaign was good whilst it lasted, and the extra bit of storyline does help you understand the missing bits of Halo 2. If you enjoyed Halo 3, you’ll enjoy playing this, but don’t have huge expectations, you’ll be let down, unless you plan on regularly playing with your friends on Firefight, in which case, do have big expectations!
I’d suggest waiting for the price to come down, as you’ll probably already own the Halo 3 features included, bar the 3 new maps, and the campaign story does promise much, but falls a bit short, though if you have yet to buy the Halo 3 map packs, go ahead and buy this, it’ll save you a lot of money in the long run (the new maps are exclusive to the disk and are now required online)
Halo 3 ODST campaign score: 7/10
Halo 3 ODST Firefight score: 9.5/10
Halo 3 Mythic score: 8.5/10
Final score: 8/10

Battlefield Bad Company 2: New trailer.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 got a new trailer recently, and not only does it appear to play like the original, it has better graphics and the squads speak to you more (lots of utterings of the F-word about, I have to say).

Battlefield: Bad company was without a doubt, my favourite game of this generation, possibly ever. It was different in some respects, but similaave to sayr in others, and it was one of the only games I could play for ages without getting bored of, and having played it on both the PS3 and Xbox 360, I think it was done better on the PS3, though it might be because I played it on that first.

Not only will it blow Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 out of the water, it will simply destroy it. It's taken realistic first person shooters to a whole new level. The blend of seriousness with comedy is fantastic. Preorder this rather than MW2, if you're one of the 8 people who are undecided.
